Dr. Germaine B. Hawkins, DO
Germaine Hawkins, DO, native Houstonian, graduated from Texas A&M University - College Station with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science. He completed his medical studies at the University of North Texas Health Science Center/Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his Psychiatric Residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He has been in private practice since 2004.
Dr. Hawkins, an osteopathic physician by training, has always had a vision of incorporating holistic health and nutrtion into optimal mental wellness. In his practice he quickly noticed that his patients were seeking weight management, bariatric surgery psychological clearances, and his professional advice on whether or not to proceed with various other cosmetic procedures. These were not only anxiety-provoking decisions but of paramount importance to his patients. At this point, Dr Hawkins fully appreciated that “how we look to ourselves and others directly effect our self-perception, self-esteem and emotional wellness”.
Dr. Hawkins incorporates weight management using ephedra-free natural supplements and simple dietary modification tips into his psychiatric practice. He understands the importance of early detection of diabetes and high cholesterol. How obesity, poor nutrition, ’stress eating’ combined with the ease of accesibility of saturated fatty foods along with anxiety disorders, clinical depression and other psychiatric conditions far too often lead to early and otherwise preventable cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes.
His vision is now being shared with many others through PNBC.
